It is important for us to know where we place our faith. I have been on what I refer to as a simple faith walk with Jesus since 1988. It is not about politics, the religious right, being conservative or liberal or any of this. For me, it is about knowing and loving God, His son and the Holy Spirit. It is about living my life learning and loving God with all my heart, strength, mind and soul. It is also about loving my neighbor as myself. This is enough for me. It is not an easy walk. It is a beautiful walk. It is, at times, walking by faith and not by sight.
Some of my closest "neighbors" are my wife and children. I have coached way too many leaders in business who drifted away from their families in their quest for success. Fortunately, many turned back, but not all. The commandment, "Love your neighbor as Yourself " sounds so simple. In my experience, it is not so easy.
First, I have to love myself. Then comes the neighbors. What if your neighbor is noisy, nosy, a different color, a different religion, very old, very young? Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me." We have been blessed to be a big family. We have grandchildren and a great grandchild. Hosted children in high school from other countries who are now a part of our family. A sponsored child in Brazil and two in Africa with Compassion International. Now they are in our family. One of my best friends is 100 years old and we held a big party for her. We are neighbors and we are family.
This is my faith walk. Love is the verb in both of these commandments. Business, basketball, family and church have been my playing field. Coaching, speaking, writing, listening, singing and innovation have been my tools.
